Wanting more from music Mike and Julie moved to Nashville, TN to take their band on the road to tour and open for many name acts. Scene, so Mike played in many Country, Rock and Top 40 bands with his girlfriend and soon to be wife Julie a singer and songwriter. Living in Evansville Indiana there was little to no jazz music In the years ahead Mike spent all of his spare time listening to and studying the jazz masters of not just the guitar but other musicians as well such as Miles Davis, Bill Evans, Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter. This would set the stage for the musical journey Mike was about to go on. Tester exposed Mike to the music of Howard Roberts, Joe Pass and all of the “Jazz Chords” that he knew. So he took lessons from a local guitar teacher at “The University of Evansville” David Tester. Soon after he realized that he could progress faster if he could read music. Mike was a self taught musician until he left high school. Mike Harrison born Apin Chandler, Indiana first became introduced to the guitar and to music at the age of 10 years old through his father learning and playing hillbilly music together.
